ABOUT THE ARTIST
In just five years as a professional portrait painter, Lucas has undertaken over fifty commissions, has been mentored by the world renowned artist Jonathan Yeo, has painted multiple notable sitters and has just taken part in a group exhibition.
BIOGRAPHY
Lucas painted his first self-portrait aged 7. During school holidays, painting and drawing was always ongoing with his mother, an established glass engraver, and his father, an accomplished watercolour painter. Learning the foundations of oil painting at Radley College, Lucas used his early commissions as an opportunity to learn and develop his skills. Life drawing and master studies were also a key part of his learning process - copying works by DaVinci, Titian, Ingres, Modigliani and Cézanne. Lucas hasn’t been to art school, but his work is hugely influenced by everyone that he has been taught and inspired by.
Over the past three years, Lucas has been incredibly fortunate to be mentored by Jonathan Yeo and his team. Jonathan is the leading contemporary figurative artist in the world. The time Lucas has spent with Jonathan has been pivotal to his becoming a professional artist. It is an unrivalled and rare opportunity for a young artist to learn directly from one of the modern greats:
“I will undoubtedly look back on the time I spent with Jonny as the single most important step in starting my journey as a portrait painter”
As a professional portrait painter, Lucas has undertaken over fifty commissions. On this website is just a selection of his paintings from private collections. In 2022 he exhibited at the Sewell Gallery in Oxfordshire and is currently building up a body of work for a new exhibition.
